How I got here:
I love Poliça. Their first record Give You the Ghost was magical. That was also about a dozen years ago.
Everything else is pretty amazing, too!. Seen them live a few times. Double drum kits, incredible.
In 2020, I started working for Target (🎯 yes, that one) based in Minneapolis. So I was going out there every couple of weeks. While out there, I found the music scene was insane (just: Bob Dillan, Prince… NBD).
Turns out that Poliça is from there as well. Cool. Maybe I’ll meet Channy getting a coffee sometime and be an awkward fanboy… (that also explains that one album name…)
At some point, one of my TGT coworkers mentioned to me this producer “Lane 8” who was also from MSP… And in 2020 he put out one of his remix/mixtape/whatever albums: Brightest Lights_—which I might have slept on… but then I saw: POLIÇA! And holy shit are these tracks great. This whole album has been on repeat for the last 6 years.
FFWD to last month. Maybe I should see who else Lane 8 is working with… listen to a bunch of it. One of the absolute stand out tracks is “The Deep”. Holy shit this is good.
It’s got that same Poliça close-but-distant vocal delivery.
