A long time ago when the internet was fun...

With the general destruction of the internet these days, I’m finding myself increasingly nostalgic for the good old days of being online. That first SXSW when twitter launched. The early days of reddit (before digg), and before that slashdot, and before that usenet groups.

Things were new and exciting. There was art and experiments and weird shit. There was no payout for “going viral” and no influencers. People just did stuff because it was neat. Because it was fun.

With the push of AI everywhere and the general enshitification of things, it’s been fun to return to my stupid little blog from 20 years ago, and taking a tour through what used to be.

So I’ll put this back online, mostly unedited, filled with link-rot, and some maybe now questionable takes. But it’s a neat little snapshot of who and where I was at the time… and maybe that will inspire me to go back to doing some of the things I used to do back then.

Update: Feb 10, 2025: I’ve also decided to start back-posting some other, older ramblings that I’ve written between now and 2007
