SGI, exploded

So as if tempting fate, I’m thinking about finally building out the SGI, for the sole purpose of running Zoë fulltime.

I called joel yesterday around 3:30, to see if he wanted to swing by and come by help. A project that we both expected to be ~2 hours ended up going on until 11:00pm. It turns out that installing IRIX is fucking hard, and we still aren’t done.

This far into it though, I’m beginning to wonder just how well will Zoë run on this antiquated SGI hardware (anyone have any guesses how well a 250mHz R4400 Indigo^2 will run a full blown java app like that?). I think I’m becoming a little concerned if it can manage it after all...

So for the time being, though we can get a console, and a very primitive window manager, the SGI is going back in the closet, to wait for another day.

And, if nothing else, I can always put it up on eBay.
