the new gig.

So the new gig is going well. It’s another small startup (sigh, when will I ever learn?) called mailblocks. They’re a neat little company that’s doing some interesting things with email; one of them being that they’re the patent holder of the challenge/response system of spam blocking.

At first, my thought was “yeah, big deal. So what?” but then I had mailblocks attack my hotmail account (it can manage up to 10 email addresses). And holy shit, it works(!).

My hotmail account that I haven’t been able to use in 2 years because of all the damned spam is now empty. Wow. No more ads for Viagra, penis extensions, diets, or mortgage rates.

All in all, it’s pretty neat, and the company is made up of a good group of folks. I’m working now on putting together a proposal to move the corporate and support sites into ASP/SQL server on the backend, as well as XHTML and CSS on the front, and rolling everything into source control. I’m also looking at setting up the site to be edited with Macromedia Contribute… we’ll see.

(shh. Don’t tell, but most of the pages on http://about.mailblocks.com have already been transitioned to semi-valid XHTML—I just couldn’t work on the pages in the state they were in. ;)
