the christian SUV

So, the other day I was driving up the Sunol grade and there was this big-ass SUV that was driving like an asshole. From a distance, I could see that there was something soaped in the rear window, and being bored as hell in my commute to San Ramon, I decided I would keep an eye on this guy.

Judging by the aggressive driving, the honking, and the weaving in and out of traffic, I assumed it to be a “Go Seniors, class of 2004!” or something of the like—a bunch of dumb kids. But as I got closer, I could see that there were hearts and stars drawn in the soap, and the writing was “Our God is SO COOL!”

Now, I think I’m a pretty spiritual fella, and I believe that God can be a great many things, however I’m having a little trouble with “cool”. All I see is the “Buddy Christ” from Dogma, doing the whole Fonzie “aaayyyeee!” thing.

So the “cool” thing aside, the thing that has really stuck with me, was the way these folks were driving. It was seriously aggressive, to the point that they even passed someone on the shoulder.

And, so now I’m left wondering what was going on here. I wonder if these people were deluded enough to think that God really was their passenger, and they had no fear of taking someone out on the freeway because of the free advertising, or (and what I’m trying to convince myself of) maybe it was just someone trying to be ironic… hm.
