cromwell and sofa action

Sorry there have been few updates this last week; things have been busy as all hell. Some things of note:

I finally managed to get the sofa away from barb. We moved it in over the weekend. Getting it in the apartment was very easy (being a 9ft. Sofa, I expected the worst), and moving the old one into the office was also much easier than I expected. She also sent me home with a new picture for the wall, a table (which is beautiful and huge in my apartment), and a plant. And just like that, my apartment is now full.

Carter’s site is completed. Check it out [cromwellPhoto.com], all valid XHTML and CSS (well, mostly valid, anyway) you may think the design is pretty plain. This is something that I really wrestled with. The final design choice was to make the site extremely simple, monochromatic and plain, in an effort to focus the eye on the photography (which is amazing, btw), not the site. I’m still torn on if the background should have been dark or light, but I think the dark works well to frame the content. Let me know what you think.

the backend is pretty slick; the administration allows carter to manage all the photos in a database. when a new file is added, the application determines the orientation (landscape/portrait), resizes the image to the right size according to the orientation, adds the © watermark, then creates a thumbnail for it. both of these new files are then stored in the db as BLOBs. Pretty damned slick.

I’ve been speaking to a certain individual about possible employment. Could be interesting, I’m curious what the salary would be. I’m really enjoying working on my own now, so my hope is that I could just contract for them on a <30hr/week basis. We’ll see what happens.

More later.
