So I got a new phone last week.
Prior to dropping the previous one, I had always told myself my next phone would be either a SideKick, or some other kind of PDA/phone hybrid. However, spending the $300 on a new PDA/phone was out of the question this month. So I went in expecting to get the cheapest phone I could. Somehow, I managed to talk the radioshack guy into giving me a Samsung N400 at the promotional price of $40. $40(!)
The phone itself is pretty damned slick. I had intended to use it as just a phone, but then I realized my plan included unlimited wireless web, and that the little browser on the phone wasn’t half bad.
All in all, I have to admit to being terribly impressed with browsing the web from such a small device like a phone. Google. Slashdot. I can even check and reply to email (I wrote a custom, very lightweight, UI for my mail server that works like a charm on the phone).
Accessibility. Convergence. So damned cool.
